About Our Scholarship’s
The Region III VPPPA Scholarship Committee will select and award $500 scholarships for one year of full or part-time study. You may apply to both below-referenced scholarships, if you meet the eligibility requirements for both scholarships, and receive an award under either, but not both, of the scholarship programs for which you meet the eligibility requirements and application deadline.
Awards are available for more than one year of your study program; however, you must reapply and be selected from each year’s applicant pool. Awards are offered for tuition, books, and academic fees for post-secondary education programs. This includes such programs as those offered by accredited vocational-technical schools and for two- or four-year college or university degree programs. Awards must be utilized in the academic year that they are received.

Application Deadline for Both is March 31, 2025.
The Region III VPPPA Scholarship Committee will select and award $500.00 scholarships for one year of full or part-time study. You may receive an award for more than one year of your study program however; you must reapply and be selected from each year’s applicant pool. Awards are offered for tuition, books, and academic fees for post-secondary education programs. This includes such programs as those offered by accredited vocational-technical schools and for two- or four-year college or university degree programs. Awards must be utilized in the academic year that they are received.
The Larry Shaffer Memorial Scholarship
1. Applicants must be an employee of a Region III VPPPA member company or a spouse, child, stepchild, or grandchild of an employee of a Region III VPPPA member company. The site must be a VPPPA member in good standing to qualify.
2. Students must be pursuing a degree (technical, undergraduate, or graduate) either full-time or part-time.
3. All applicants must submit a completed application, an official transcript, a reference letter from a high school teacher, a professor from the institution they are attending or a supervisor at a current job, and a reference letter from a relative working at the VPP site referenced within item number 1 above.
4. As part of the application, each applicant shall also submit a typed biography of at least 300 words.
5. The applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA on a scale of 4.0 at the time of application. Who Is Eligible?

The Michael Hancock Memorial Scholarship
1. Applicants must be active duty or honorably discharged US military veterans (to include reservists or National Guard personnel) or a spouse, child, stepchild, or grandchildren of an active duty or honorably discharged US military veteran.
2. Applicants must be an employee of a Region III VPPPA member company or a spouse, child, stepchild, or grandchild of an employee of a Region III VPPPA member company. The site must be a VPPPA member in good standing to qualify.
3. Students must be pursuing a degree (technical undergraduate, or graduate) either full-time or part-time.
4. How Do I Apply?
Interested applicants must complete an online application or hard copy application which can be found below and submit it along with a current, complete transcript of grades to the list recipient on the application postmarked no later than May 15, 2024 prior to the annual conference. Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Grade reports are not acceptable official transcripts only. Applicants will receive acknowledgment of receipt of their applications. Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all questions as completely as possible. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. All information received is considered confidential and is only reviewed by the Region III Scholarship Committee.

How is the Scholarship Recipient Selected?
Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic record, demonstrated leadership, participation in school, and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, and an outside appraisal. Financial need is not considered.
Selection of recipients is made by the Region III Scholarship Committee.
if you meet the eligibility requirements for both scholarships, and receive an award under either, but not both, of the scholarship programs for which you meet the eligibility requirements and application deadline.
All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.
Applicants will be notified before the Annual Region III Conference where award presentations will be made.
Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients.
Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.
How Are Awards Paid?
Payments are made payable to the student, either at the annual conference or by mail.
If a recipient is not available to accept the award in person at the annual conference, a video acceptance (no longer than one minute) is requested. Acceptance videos may be shown during the scholarship presentation at the annual conference.
